Amidst the holiest period of the Jewish calendar, Jewish philanthropy and faith leaders launched the “In Our Name” campaign, to raise $10 million for freedom, dignity, and self-determination of Palestinians. This campaign aims to raise desperately needed funds for groups who have seen philanthropic support cut off in a moment of crisis but a call to action for philanthropy and Jewish institutions more broadly.

Many institutions want us to believe that Jewish and Palestinian safety are at odds. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Our freedom is interconnected. Hear from Rabbi Becky Silverstein on how he is showing up in line with Jewish values that call all of us to build that future world.

After multiple complaints from progressive grantees with similar experiences, a group of Jewish philanthropy professionals and major donors composed an open letter last month deriding what they called a “dramatic ramping up of efforts in philanthropy to marginalize, discredit, and censor voices — including Jewish voices — that dissent from certain orthodoxies.”

We invite our Jewish colleagues in philanthropy to join us in building a different future together. Specifically, we invite you to cease the harmful practice of cutting off funding to groups that express solidarity with Palestinian liberation and/or criticize the state of Israel’s policies. We offer our support and allyship to all those who are grappling at this time, and we recommit to building the world we all deserve.
